8 Tips on How to Survive Your Next Long Haul Flight

PR Log (Press Release) – Dec 18, 2009 – Travelling long distances these days without flying is nearly impossible. With destinations around the world becoming easier and more affordable to get to, people can find themselves on flights for a long time.

However, as airlines compete for your business, they aim to make as much money as possible. This means they try to pack in as many people onto the flight. This therefore means comfort during the flight can be compromised.

Here are some steps to help you get through your long haul flights:

1)   Reserve a good seat. The seat is going to be your closest friend for the entire flight. So choosing the correct one is very important. Deciding on whether you want to have more leg room, or you simply just want to sleep, each seat will be different. The best seats for leg room will be the aisle seats, and if you are lucky, the emergency exit seats. The latter being the far superior seats as you can stretch out almost as much as you want.

2)   The long flights can become boring if you have nothing to entertain yourself with. Some people just like to chat, but others need other sources of information. So bringing things such as books, magazines, iPods and portable game consoles, can help.

3)   Whilst on the flight, checking how long you have left until arrival can make the journey feel like it is taking ‘forever’. Therefore not checking the time can speed up the journey.

4)   Bringing your own headphones will increase the enjoyment of watching the in-flight films as the sound quality of the airlines own headphones are usually very low.

5)   Keep moving around on the flight. This will help aid circulation of the body to stop aching and other threats of serious conditions such as deep vein thrombosis.

6)   To keep all your belongings closer to you on the flight, it is best that you take a smaller bag. This will increase the chances of having your personal belongings closer to your seat, making it easier to get stuff quickly.

7)   Protect yourself from the dry air that is pumped into the cabin. Using eye drops and lip balm, this can protect your skin and eyes from becoming dry. Also drinking plenty of water will help.

8)   Have your car stored with a meet and greet airport parking company so that you will be met outside the terminal with your car, rather than going through the hassle of finding it and walking a large distance to get it.
