6)   To keep all your belongings closer to you on the flight, it is best that you take a smaller bag. This will increase the chances of having your personal belongings closer to your seat, making it easier to get stuff quickly.

Bugatti Veyron, Most Expensive And Fastest Production Vehicle Of All Times

DEF Key to Lowering Diesel Engine Emissions

PR Log (Press Release) – Dec 10, 2009 – Did you know that starting Jan. 1, 2010, vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology will need to use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to comply with new EPA NOx emissions standards?
Well, it’s true.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated tougher emission control standards for all highway diesel vehicles next year.
In response to these tougher standards, vehicle manufacturers will incorporate the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to help them comply with these new EPA standards.
The SCR system uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to turn harmful NOx into harmless nitrogen, which already makes up 80% of the air we breathe, and water vapor. The SCR technology is also expected to provide up to a 5% increase in fuel economy, which is the first time fuel economy has improved for the industry since facing tighter emissions standards.
Here’s more information about how the SCR system works as reported by factsaboutscr.com:
“SCR technology is designed to permit nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction reactions to take place in an oxidizing atmosphere. It is called ‘selective’ because it reduces levels of NOx using ammonia as a reductant within a catalyst system. The reducing agent reacts with NOx to convert the pollutants into nitrogen, water and tiny amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) - natural elements common to the air we breathe everyday. The reductant source is usually automotive-grade urea, otherwise known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid, which can be rapidly hydrolyzed to produce the oxidizing ammonia in the exhaust stream. SCR technology alone can achieve NOx reductions in excess of 90%.”
In other words, using the SCR system can reduce emissions to near zero levels while improving fuel efficiency in passenger cars and light duty trucks as well as in medium and heavy duty commercial trucks – making SCR one of the only emissions control technologies that is as good for business as it is for the environment.
Of course, the effectiveness of SCR depends greatly on system users being able to get their hands on DEF.
So what exactly is DEF?
It’s a solution made up of purified water and 32.5 percent automotive-grade urea that is used as a carrying agent for the ammonia needed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from vehicles into nitrogen, water and carbon dioxide.
Among the factors affecting the availability of DEF are:
  • Purity and quality
  • Transportation and distribution
  • Dispensing equipment and packaging
Significant investment is being made to create the infrastructure that will ensure Diesel Exhaust Fluid quality is upheld and that the solution is conveniently available in spite of the factors listed above. All told, commitments are currently being secured to ensure that Diesel Exhaust Fluid will be available in more than 1,800 locations in North America by 2010.
Among the companies that have addressed the factors above and is currently distributing DEF is Pynergy Petroleum.
“DEF is non-flammable and non-combustible as over two-thirds of it is water,” said Pynergy Petroleum Division Sales Manager Brandon Prentice. “However, there are still potential problems that come with storing DEF.”
One of the problems Prentice pointed out was that DEF freezes at 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
Another potential problem is that storing DEF at temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit for long periods of time can cause decreased shelf life.
“One way both of these problems can be overcome is by storing DEF indoors,” Prentice said.
DEF can be stored in tanks made of stainless steel and certain plastics. Other material such as non-ferrous metals and alloys such as copper, aluminum, silver and lead and nickel-coated plastics and metals are not approved due to the risk of SCR catalyst poisoning.
As for the quality issue, the American Petroleum Institute (API) has developed a certification program for DEF. API will certify licensed DEF marketers, and enforce compliance so that consumers who purchase DEF carrying API certification can be confident that the fluid will not damage their vehicle.

Distracted Drivers Learn to Pay Attention

Denver, Colorado - September 30, 2009 - Cartasite today announced commercial release of the world’s first driver performance analysis system, ROVER™.  Utilizing a simple wireless monitoring plug-in device, Cartasite spent the past two years analyzing driver behavior.  The data has proven to be a powerful and effective tool for identifying ‘drivers-at-risk’.
ROVER, the world’s first Realtime Onboard Vehicle Evaluation Reporting system, utilizes GPS and accelerometer circuits to capture subtle characteristics unique to each driver.  This data is then transmitted wirelessly using cellular networks to a large data warehouse.  Software algorithms rank each driver and generate an overall score, providing quantitative leading indicators of risk that a given driver may be involved in a crash.
Distracted and aggressive driving has become a systemic problem on the nation’s highways in recent years.  Certain data streams gathered by ROVER are an effective tool for identifying patterns which are indicative of driving while distracted.  Specifically, people who text-and-drive typically generate an excessive number of hard braking events, while aggressive drivers generate higher number of ‘jack-rabbit’ starts.
Driving safely saves fuel.  According to the National Highway Safety Administration, aggressive driving reduces fuel consumption by as much as 30%.
Dave Childress of Consolidated Networks Inc. says that the scorecard has made him much more aware of his driving and has helped his company reduce excessive fuel consumption by over 20%.  “Before I got ROVER onboard I didn’t give a lot of thought to my own driving habits. For instance, I had no idea how using my cell phone was causing me to do a lot of hard braking.  ROVER has made me a much more attentive and diligent driver”.
ROVER uses acceleration, speed, idling, location, and time of day to determine overall score for each driver.
Every car built since 1996 has a diagnostic port (OBD) located near the steering column used by mechanics and emissions bureaus to assess engine operations.  Cartasite’s ROVER plugs into this port, taking just seconds to install on any vehicle.  A confidential scorecard is emailed weekly to each driver, providing a detailed evaluation of their performance as compared to others.  Customers can log onto Cartasite’s worldVIEW web application to access realtime vehicle location, idle time, and detailed activity logs.   A notification system generates text or emails for excessive speeding and arrival/departure events.

Mach3 Reduces NOx Emissions by 44% and Improves fuel Economy by 16%

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 22, 2009 – TORRANCE, Calif.  — Ecomotive Products has introduced Mach3 SEFS-HD that the company says can improve fuel economy in diesel power vehicles by 16 percent.
“This is a revolutionary new, EPA-certified, environmentally friendly fuel additive designed to break down hydrocarbon molecule chains,” Chris Huff, president of Ecomotive Products, said. “This allows gas and diesel fuels to burn more completely, producing more efficient combustion which results in increased mileage and a reduction in harmful emissions.”
Incomplete fuel combustion has long been a barrier to optimal performance in cars and trucks with internal combustion engines, Huff said.
“The problem has never been the fuel your engine burns, it is the fuel your engine doesn't burn,” he said. “Incomplete combustion is the root cause of fuel inefficiency and carbon deposit formation. Less than optimal performance and excessive emissions. Improving the quality of combustion will increase service life as well as reduce emission and increase performance and mileage.”
Huff said Mach 3 SEFS-HD reformulates hydrocarbon fuel on a molecular level, breaking down the clusters of long hydrocarbon chains present in all common fossil fuels into shorter, more easily burned components.
Unlike many other products on the market, it does not rely on oxygenates as a combustion enhancer, he said.
“Oxygenates can help to promote more thorough combustion, but they do so at the expense of increased exhaust gas temperatures and reduced energy density,” Dennis Leung, who invented the product, said. “The increased EGT's can lead to long term engine problems as well as increased NOx emissions. The reduced energy density of oxygenated fuels means that more has to be burned to do the same amount of work.”
Huff said testing performed in accordance with the stringent SAE J1321 Type II test at an independent EPA recognized lab showed a 13 percent increase in fuel economy in gasoline fueled vehicles and a 16% increase in fuel economy for diesel fueled vehicles.
He said Mach 3 SEF-HD reduces NOx emissions by 44 percent, CO emissions by 33 percent and HC emissions by 7 percent.
It has also been proven to significantly reduce PM-10 and CO2 emissions, he said, adding that with tighter emissions regulations looming nationwide, SEFS-HD can help to bring fleets into compliance with a minimum of mechanical disturbance.

If the motor carrier’s business needs change, then the mover may legally publish an update, or amendment, to their tariff, listing the new rates. At that point, the mover may charge its customers the new rates only – the old rates will no longer be effective. In sum, the mover may not charge its customers prices that are not specified in its tariff.
Q. What are the penalties for violating tariff rules and regulations?
A. Penalties for violating tariff rules and regulations can be both civil and criminal in nature. An interstate moving company may lose its operating authority. Any moving company that charges rates that are not consistent with their published tariff shall be liable for a civil penalty of up to $100,000.00 per violation. In addition, criminal charges for charging rates not consistent with the tariff may include a fine and prison for up to two (2) years for each violation.
