Car Rental Port Canaveral

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 24, 2009 – There are many travelers, actually 1.3 million of them a year, who take cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida. About a third of those consider a car rental to Port Canaveral, usually from Orlando airport. What amazes me is how many of those people will rent a car for the entire duration of the cruise. Most of them stay at hotels near Port Canaveral (http://www.portcanaveralhotelsinsider.com/hotels-near-po ...) the night before the cruise and then park it at the Port Canaveral parking lot at the cruise terminal for the three or seven nights they are on the cruise. Not only are they paying for a rental car every day it is sitting unused in a parking lot, they are paying parking fees of $15 a day on top of that. I don’t know if these people are new to the world of car rental, but there is something called rental car drop off service. You pick up the car at one location and turn it back in at another. There are six car rental locations at Port Canaveral that are close to the port and have drop off service. Dollar Rent A Car, Budget Car Rental, Thrifty Car Rental, Avis Rent-A-Car, Hertz Rent a Car, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car all have drop off service at Port Canaveral. Now, these six also have free shuttle service to the cruise terminals. National Car Rental has a location a little further away in Cocoa Beach, but they don’t provide transportation to the port. But if they have the lowest rate, then paying cab fare may be worth it. It’s still better than paying for a car sitting in a parking lot for three to seven days. See http://www.portcanaveralhotelsinsider.com/car-rental-por .... So, when you consider car rental at Port Canaveral for a cruise, you rent it from and drop it off at one of these locations before the cruise and pick it back up when you arrive back off the cruise ship.

“We are thrilled to have our first SmartWay Certification,” said Jay Wilson, president and CEO of Silver Eagle Manufacturing Company. “This is the first in a large offering of innovative aerodynamic products we will be launching throughout the remainder of 2009 and 2010 to help long-haul truckers save on fuel costs and gain a quick return on investment.”
Silver Eagle Manufacturing Company’s side skirts easily mount to the underside of the trailer and offer a unique, patented, dual-walled design that significantly reduces aerodynamic drag to increase fuel economy. SmartWay certification is based on a comprehensive set of fuel savings specifications for Class 8 long-haul trucks. By 2012, the initiative aims to reduce as much as 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions per year, as well as a targeted fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of oil annually.

Vessel Defense, Total Integrated Security Solutions

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 18, 2009 – Piracy and armed robbery against merchant vessels is a global issue and should have a global solution, Much emphasis has been published on the Gulf of Aden and Horn of Africa, but ships are commonly boarded and robbed throughout the world. ISSG Holdings, Ltd. and Evolutionary Security Management, Inc. have combined their efforts and expertise to bring a total security solution to the maritime industry.
Having security teams on board merchant vessels can be expensive, and at times, in the 'maritime culture,' can be an invasive situation, or necessary evil. Shipping companies now have the option to have their vessels properly prepared and crews trained  to control their environment globally.
Mr. Murrell, CEO of ISSG Holdings, Ltd. says "we can advise on the appropriate infrastructure for each individual vessel, train the crew and provide enhanced compliance with the ISPS Code, and the shipping company can avoid the high cost of on board security teams for every special transit like the Gulf of Aden."
This is done with a vessel specific risk assessment  for each vessel in a given fleet. One individual will board the vessel and complete an inspection, which in turn is transformed into a specific assessment as to the needed infrastructure for that vessels needs. This is specifically in line with the latest IMO Circular MSC.1/CRC1333, section 29, published in June, 2009. ISSG has always given a vessel specific risk assessment for every quotation of security service and is delighted that the latest IMO circular is in line with it's doctrine.
Murrell says "we know that some companies want to hire security teams and some would rather have their own capacity to protect their assets and crews. This is why we have developed the total integrated security solution option."
with the total integrated security solution, it is not merely the vessels that are getting the training and infrastructure. In addition, Evolutionary Security management, inc. is providing the necessary training and infrastructure at the corporate level. Preparation is not just for ships, but for management as well.
The infrastructure that is set in place, is a complete planning and execution scenario to include pre and post contingency preparation, total security infrastructure for the vessel. All ending with the ability to control the ships environment as well as bringing the vessel and corporate offices into complete compliance with the ISPS code and IMO recommendations.
This is no small feat as the intent is to prepare all vessels of any size shipping company to be a wholly compliant and secure system. The cost is based on the number of vessels owned by a particular company, as all of the vessels in any particular company will be prepared to face today's maritime environment based on each individual vessels characteristics.

HAFAS at ITS World Congress Stockholm

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 13, 2009 – As ITS stands for intelligent transport systems and services, HAFAS must not be missing at the 16th World Congress which is to be hold in Stockholm this year from September 21st to 25th. The software specialist HaCon will present its leading timetable information system in the Congress Center of the Swedish Capital. There, HaCon will show its solutions on a joint stand (M 10) with PTV AG from Karlsruhe, Germany.
Solutions developed by HaCon connect travellers, modes of transport and infrastructure. HaCon illustrates this in Stockholm primarily with its contribution to the congress agenda via speeches and papers. The speeches given by the HaCon IT-experts focus on challenges of mobile navigation for public transport, on the next generation of journey planners illustrated by the examples of Denmark and Sweden, on barrier free timetable information and on real time journey planner information for multiple output channels in Austria.
As an exhibitor, HaCon also sets the focal point on co-modal journey planning with HAFAS from door to door. Visitors will be able to experience how such an intermodal solution looks like, which HaCon has realised for the area of Stockholm. The solution is displayed at the stand of the HaCon customer Stockholm Public Transport (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik - SL): The website trafiken.nu provides detailed information about the traffic situation in Stockholm and is jointly driven by Stockholm Public Transport, the Municipality of Stockholm (Trafikkontoret, traffic control centre of Stockholm) and the Swedish Road Administration .
The general objectives of Trafiken.nu are to offer an up-to-date picture of the traffic situation, to reduce the impact of traffic disruptions and to facilitate travel planning and the choice of mode of transport. A co-modal journey planner that improves all that was developed with HaCon. The features provided by trafiken.nu include information about realistic travel times, about the costs of travel and about the environmental impact. Information is given for different modes of travel: public transport, bicycle, walk, park & ride as well as bike & ride. As a result, the user interface “plan commute” was initiated. It enables commuters to plan their trips intelligently and easily and has been realised just in time to this years’s ITS World Congress. (www.itsworldcongress.com)
Trade visitors, who are interested in experiencing this and other benefits of HAFAS live, are welcome to Stockholm. In addition to the timetable information system HAFAS, visitors of the fair have the chance to get to know another solution developed by HaCon, the Train Planning System TPS. TPS aims at timetable construction and network capacity management and is running in Denmark and Great Britain and soon also in France. At Nordic Rail from October 6th to 8th in Jönköping in the South of Sweden, HaCon will be present with TPS as well. (www.elmia.se/nordicrail)
HaCon will show the advantages of HAFAS also at Inform Norden in Copenhagen, Denmark, from September 10th to 11th. (www.informnorden.org)
